Breathe

Description

This is a picture of the surgery I was in on yesterday morning, we all thought the man had a diaphragmatic hernia post trauma...which basically means that the diaphragm (the muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen and which helps you breathe) either has a hole and through that hole your intestines go up to your chest, or if its after an accident or an injury the diaphragm, usually from the left side, is torn up and the intestines and sometimes the stomach goes up to the chest....but after the guy was opened up they realized it was not a diaphragmatic hernia post-trauma...it was a Paralisis of the Phrenic Nerve...thats the nerve that "keeps the diaphragm in place" so to speak..there's a left side and a right side...if the nerve is paralized on either side. Well then if its the left phrenic nerve that is paralized, then the left part of the diaphragm is going to be pushed up by the intestines and any other organs on that side of the abdomen....which is what he had..
